Hello to all my family and friends. I hope everyone is in good health and spirits.
Well, it’s August already! I had the chance to go to the Ohio State Fair this year. Al and I went this past Saturday. And of Course, I ate fair food! First thing was a corn dog with mustard and I had to have an elephant ear too. I saw a lot of the art exhibits. Many talented artists in cake decorating, gardening, sewing, embroidery, etc. Oh! of course, The Clydesdales one of my favorites is a must-see. I love all animals. Al and I were looking at the owls and a lady saw me talking to this owl and she said, “That owl is really listening to you.” I wanted to tell her I was an owl whisperer. 🙂 And what else to do at the fair; sightseeing! It was a great time. No, Al didn’t talk my ear off. He was busy talking to everyone else, even when going to the restroom.
August always reminds me of the end of summer when everyone’s busy with vacations, cookouts, back to school, and pre-fall garden cleanout. I’ve been working a lot in my gardens. They got over looked for 6 weeks or so. And of course, you don’t have to have rain for the weeds to grow and take over. I’ve had a lot of help thanks to Al.
I had a great time with my cousins in Sandusky. Two great days of fun, laughs, food, thrift shopping and lots of walking. We walked 2.5 miles each day.
Dale and Jeff Lee are in visiting from Ft. Myers. I will spend some time with them.
Yesterday, Mother, Karen, and I went out to eat for Karen’s Birthday which is Tues. the 6th. SPEAKING OF BIRTHDAYS, join us Saturday, Aug 10th 5 - 9 pm for all our August Birthdays Karaoke. No, Karen will not be singing, but I might.
Thanks to everyone who donated, money, their time, jello shots, food, etc. for a successful fundraiser for Kaleidoscope on Roger’s Bear Happy Hour. You raised $609! There were three winners in the side dish cookoff. 1st place was Dan and Paul, 2nd place was Will and Michael, and 3rd place was won by West. Thanks to Stella and her Menz, and also Jamie our DJ.
So I’ve heard that the 50-year celebration of Woodstock has been canceled. But I heard that “Al’s Comedy Show” this month Friday the 16th at 6 pm will present their own version of Woodstock. So join us while we have a good time.
Another trip down memory lane. The Rudely Elegant on West Broad, it was an old theater at one time. Corbet Reynolds an artist and the owner was before our times. It was New York in Columbus. He had huge theme parties and they continued yearly after the bar closed. The Red Party etc. What another fun Dance Bar. I talked in an earlier “Connie’s Corner” about Tradewinds the original dark small piano bar. Well, the new Tradewinds which was relocated became our first leather bar in Columbus. With a seperate dance floor in the back. The front bar was square-shaped. It was easy to see everyone. Pool tables and of course pinball machines. “The Centurions” a group of guys formed the organization and once a year, in December, they did a huge show and raised thousands of dollars for charities. The Club Riverside was another show bar. Our little town was growing and our gay bars were spreading out.
I will close for now leaving you with this one last thought: Just don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.
Take care of yourself and each other.
Love,
Connie
